Article body
Icelandic coach Teitur Thordarsson today resigned from SK Brann, citing a lack of confidence from the Norwegian club's board as the primary reason for his departure.
Second spell
The 50-year-old Thordarsson took over at the Brann helm for a second time in 1999 and steered the club to second place behind Rosenborg BK in 2001. Last season, though, was a huge disappointment as the Bergen club needed a play-off victory to secure a berth in the Tippeligaen for next season.
Recent evaluation
Officials at Brann recently met to evaluate the way the club was being run, the outcome of which was a suggestion that more people should take part in the organisation of training sessions. This has led Thordarsson to say: "I feel that the club have no confidence in me."
End of the season
Brann chairman Magne Revheim called the decision "a surprise" and will immediately begin a search for Thordarsson's successor. The Norwegian season ended last month and the outgoing coach's assistants, Tor Todesen and Mons Ivar Mjelde, will take charge of the first team when the players return for pre-season training next year if a full-time appointment has not been made.
