FC Schalke 04 have signed 22-year-old midfield player Simon Cziommer from Dutch side FC Twente.

Back to Germany
The former German youth international has accepted a three-year deal with the 1. Bundesliga side as he makes his return to Germany having been with Twente since first signing a professional contract in 1998.

'Great hope'
"We have observed Simon quite a few times in the last months and he has convinced us," said Schalke general manager Rudi Assauer. "He is a young player who gives us great hope and who will help us in the near future." Cziommer had also attracted attention from Feyenoord but decided to return to his homeland, where he had not played since leaving his FC Schüttorf 09 as a teenager.

'An honour'
"It was an honour to me being asked by Schalke," said Cziommer, Schalke's second signing of the close season after VfB Stuttgart's Jochen Seitz. "They are one of the most prestigious clubs in Germany. I am looking forward to continuing my development here and being able to help the club."
