Article body
League leaders Club Brugge KV firmly illustrated the difference between the top and bottom clubs in Belgium with a 8-0 away win against KV Mechelen.
Martens hat-trick
Sandy Martens was the Brugge hero with a hat-trick, while Gert Verheyen scored twice and Olivier de Cock, Timmy Simons and Tim Smolders also got on the scoresheet. The win coupled with K. Sint Truidense VV's defeat at KSK Beveren saw the champions extend their lead at the top from eleven to 14 points.
Boffin goal not enough
Sint-Truiden took the lead just before half-time when a free-kick from Danny Boffin was deflected into the Beveren goal by Désiré Mbonabucya, but Beveren struck back after the interval with goals from Venance Zezeto and Davy Theunis to earn a 2-1 win.
Hasi on target
Sint-Truiden's defeat allowed RSC Anderlecht to move into second place with a comfortable 2-0 win away against KAA Gent. Besnik Hasi opened the score for the Brussels club early on, while Ivica Mornar made sure of the win with a goal towards the end.
Goals aplenty
Elsewhere, K. Lierse SK kept up their European hopes with a 2-1 win against KVC Westerlo thanks to goals from Arouna Kone and Bjorn De Wilde, while Sporting Lokeren St-Niklaas Waasland had took the spoils at RAA Louviéroise with an entertaining 4-2 win. Emmanuel Kenmogne gave La Louvière an early lead but Lokeren came back strongly to lead 3-1 at half-time. Sambegou Bangoura rounded off a glorious night for the visitors with a goal in the second half.
Superb Sonck
Wesley Sonck once more illustrated his striking credentials, scoring four times to complete an amazing comeback for KRC Genk, turning a 3-4 deficit at home against R. Excelsior Mouscron into a 5-4 win.
Antwerp win
The strikers, however, did not have much luck in Liège where R. Standard de Liège and R. AEC Mons shared the spoils in a goalless draw, while R. Antwerp FC crept up the table to eleventh position with a 3-1 win at home against R. Charleroi SC.
Relief for Lommel
Finally, KFC Lommelse SK celebrated some relief in their struggle against relegation as they won 2-1 against KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen. Paul Kpaka and Michel Noben capitalised on Aaron Mokoena being sent off for the visitors to earn three valuable points.
