Badea takes on dual role

FC Universitatea Craiova's Pavel Badea has been appointed player-coach of the Romanian club.

FC Universitatea Craiova have appointed from within by naming Pavel Badea as their new player-coach.

Player-coach
The 36-year-old midfield player replaces Sorin Cartu, who stepped down eight days ago. Badea, who has played 255 games in the Romanian top flight for Universitatea as well as over 260 games in Switzerland, the Korean Republic and Japan, will continue to play while also coaching the team until December at least.

'A big chance'
"It's a big chance for me," said the former Romanian international. "And a difficult task, because I am following in the footsteps of one of the best Romanian coaches, Sorin Cartu. I hope people will understand and support me in any difficult moments." Badea will be assisted by Gheorghe Ciurea and Silviu Lung.

New vice-president
Also today, Gheorghe Geolgau, a former Universitatea player and Romanian international, was appointed the club's new vice-president.
