DFB bans Duisburg coach Meier

The German Football Association has suspended MSV Duisburg coach Norbert Meier following an alleged assault during the 1-1 draw with 1. FC Köln.

Fraught affair
Meier allegedly head-butted Köln midfielder Albert Streit during a heated touchline skirmish which ended with the 47-year-old coach on the floor. Both men were sent off, but television footage has indicated that Meier may have instigated the scuffle during a fraught match between two sides mired in relegation trouble in the Bundesliga.

Preliminary hearing
A preliminary DFB hearing this morning decided to ban former Werder Bremen midfielder Meier with immediate effect pending a full-scale investigation. He will not be allowed to coach his players or attend team meetings, meaning he will miss Duisburg's game against DSC Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday.
