Germany legend Jürgen Kohler has been appointed as coach of Bundesliga strugglers MSV Duisburg, replacing Norbert Meier at the helm.

Illustrious career
The former Bayern München, Juventus and BV Borussia Dortmund defender has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with the club, who will hope to have put an end to the turbulent period that followed Meier's alleged assault on 1. FC Köln's Albert Streit at the start of the month. The 47-year-old was subsequently sacked and Duisburg have turned to Kohler to lead them away from the relegation zone.

Scholz assistance
The 40-year-old won 105 international caps in an illustrious playing career, but will have to draw on all his experience to rescue the struggling side, who currently lie second-from-bottom in the Bundesliga. He will be assisted by Heiko Scholz, the man who has acted as caretaker coach since Meier's absence, gaining two points in as many games.
