FC Nistru Otaci's fine form continued at the weekend as they earned a deserved victory against FC Sheriff Tiraspol. The defending champions' defeat allowed FC Zimbru Chisinau to close the gap at the Moldovan summit.
Up to third
Serghey Ianchuk's goal on four minutes was all that separated the sides at the conclusion of a closely-fought match. Nistru, now under the guidance of Ukrainian Yuri Giy, climb to third. Zimbru remain second, but moved to within a point of Sheriff with a 3-1 success against FC Politechnica Chisinau.
Dacia denied
Another in-form team, FC Dacia, were denied maximum points after FC Tiraspol player Victor Barishev cancelled out Ghenady Orbu's opener with seven minutes remaining. Barishev's father, also called Victor, did not have anything to celebrate, however, as his FC Hîncesti side lost 1-0 to FC Agro Chisinau.
