Arsenal FC set another record as VfL Bochum 1848 missed the boat on a busy weekend.

Arsenal FC continue to set records at a rapid rate after another win on Saturday kept them at the top of the English Premiership.

Henry sets record
Thierry Henry's first-half strike against Charlton Athletic FC set a new record as Arsenal have now scored in 45 consecutive top-flight games, eclipsing the mark set by Manchester City FC in 1936/37. Sylvain Wiltord and Edu sealed the 3-0 victory.

Kewell goal
Manchester United FC's troubled start to the season continued as Leeds United AFC inflicted upon them their second defeat in a week and ensured that Rio Ferdinand's return to Elland Road would not be a happy one. Harry Kewell headed the only goal to leave United in mid-table and Leeds third.

Surprise start
Tottenham Hotspur FC kept up their surprise start to the season with a 3-2 victory over West Ham United FC yesterday that keeps them in second. Chelsea FC beat Newcastle United FC 3-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday to maintain their unbeaten start and Liverpool FC beat Bolton 3-2.

Bochum miss out
In Germany, VfL Bochum 1848 missed the chance to go top of the 1. Bundesliga as they lost 1-0 at home to FC Hansa Rostock yesterday. Hansa moved above their hosts into second place, one point adrift of FC Bayern München.

Ballack brace
On Saturday, Michael Ballack scored both Bayern goals in a 2-1 victory over 1. FC Nürnberg that sets the leaders up for their UEFA Champions' League encounter with RC Deportivo La Coruña on Wednesday. BV Borussia Dortmund, who visit Arsenal tomorrow, drew their fourth game of five, 1-1 with FC Schalke 04. The miserable run of Bayer 04 Leverkusen, continued with a 3-1 home defeat by Hannover 96.

Lights go out
In Spain, Saturday's match between Real Madrid CF and Real Betis Balompié was suspended when floodlights failed at the Benito Villamarín stadium with Betis leading 1-0.

Barcelona boost
Meanwhile, FC Barcelona won 2-0 at Athletic Club Bilbao with Luis Enrique and Javier Saviola scoring. Champions Valencia CF made it two wins out of two with a 3-0 defeat of RC Recreativo de Huelva, John Carew scoring twice. Roy Makaay also scored twice to give RC Deportivo La Coruña a 2-1 success at Club Atlético Osasuna and Real Sociedad maintained their perfect start to the season with a 3-1 win over RCD Espanyol.

Impressive trio
In the Netherlands, the three Champions League participants, PSV Eindhoven, AFC Ajax and Feyenoord, occupy the top three Eredivisie places. PSV lead on goal difference after a 4-0 home victory against RKC Waalwijk, while champions Ajax beat FC Zwolle 2-0 and Feyenoord smashed FC Twente 5-1 away from home. Mateja Kezman grabbed a hat-trick for PSV, who are yet to concede a goal.

Inzaghi double
Milan AC made an impressive start to the Serie A season with a 3-0 victory at Modena FC on Saturday. Despite four new signings starting the game, an old favourite, Filippo Inzaghi, was the game's decisive contributor scoring twice.

Cruz winner
Meanwhile, two goals from Bologna FC's Julio Cruz condemned AS Roma to a 2-1 defeat. Gabriel Batistuta gave Roma the lead before Cruz equalised and added the second in injury time. Christian Vieri scored the only goal as Internazionale FC beat Torino Calcio 1-0 while Alessandro Del Piero scored twice as champions Juventus FC made a winning start to their title defence with a 3-0 victory over Atalanta BC yesterday. Last season's surprise package AC Chievo Verona carried on where they left off with a 3-2 win at S.S. Lazio.

Lyon tamed
Olympique Lyonnais's hopes of going top of France's Ligue 1 took a blow as they lost 1-0 at FC Nantes Atlantique, Marama Vahirua's goal settling matters.

Auxerre cling on
Meanwhile, AJ Auxerre had to settle for second place behind OGC Nice after a 1-1 draw at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard. Paris Saint-Germain FC moved up to fourth with a comfortable 3-0 win over RC Strasbourg and a Frank Leboeuf penalty put Olympique de Marseille on course for a 2-1 win against FC Girondins de Bordeaux.
