Surgery on Tuesday
The 38-year old, who has missed the last 13 games for Arsenal plus England's internationals against Greece and Sweden, underwent surgery on Tuesday after complaining about pains in his right shoulder when fully extending his right arm in training. Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger revealed the news after Tuesday night's 2-0 League Cup win over Grimsby Town FC.
Out for six weeks
"David will be out for six weeks, two weeks to recover from the operation and four more to get completely match-fit," he said. "He has a calcification on a bone in his shoulder and it had to be cleaned out. We have already been without him for so long and although I didn't expect it to come to surgery we have had to get it sorted out."
Taylor in the frame
With the club's other English international goalkeeper, Richard Wright, sidelined by a knee injury, 20-year-old Stuart Taylor looks set to make his European bow in next weeks Champions League game against Juventus FC.
Possible move
Wenger said he would consider moving for another keeper if Wright failed to return within the next fortnight. "I expect Richard to be back within ten days," he told the club's official website. "If that is not the case I would have to consider a signing, but I could not say whether that would be a loan or a permanent deal."
