Lizarazu setback for Bayern

FC Bayern München have suffered another injury blow after Bixente Lizarazu was injured in training.

FC Bayern München have suffered another injury blow after Bixente Lizarazu was injured at a training camp in Marbella.

Achilles tendon problems
The France full-back is believed to have suffered a recurrence of his achilles tendon problems and has flown to his specialist in Bordeaux for tests. Bayern do not know how long the 32-year-old will be out of action. "It's never easy to make predictions with achilles injuries," assistant coach Michael Henke told Bayern’s website.

Jeremies back
There has been some good news for Bayern though as they train in the Spanish resort ahead of the restart to the German 1. Bundesliga season which sees them at home to VfL Wolfsburg on 23 January. Midfield player Jens Jeremies has proved his fitness after six months out with a serious knee injury.

'Clear objective'
“I feel no pain in the knee and I've reached a good level of fitness,” said Jeremies. “I've effectively been on holiday for six months and that's more than enough. I now have a clear objective - to start the game against Wolfsburg. If I'm fit, I think I'm always going to play and that includes for the national side. I just don't think there's anyone around to challenge my position.''

Effenberg doubt
Two other players who should be ready for the Wolfsburg game are Mehmet Scholl and Roque Santa Cruz. Both played a full part in training on Thursday after recovering from ankle injuries. However Stefan Effenberg may miss out as back problems have restricted his running.
