Inzaghi praise
The forward struck twice within four minutes in the second half to hand his team three points in a hard-fought 2-1 win, but although naturally satisfied, he was quick to praise the part played by his Rossoneri colleagues. Inzaghi said: "Everything was perfect tonight and I am really happy. But I have to say again that I wouldn't be able to score the goals I have at the moment without the work of my team-mates - I especially have to thank Kakha Kaladze and Rui Costa for two perfect passes."
Different atmosphere
Asked whether the team's bright start to the season was down to the summer signings of Rivaldo and Alessandro Nesta, Inzaghi replied: "It is not only that. The atmosphere in the team is different this season. The Rivaldo and Alessandro Nesta signings have obviously helped but the whole team are enthusiastic and the crowd can feel that and are joining in.
'Important to win'
"It was really important to win tonight. In the first half, Lens were really organised, they were physical and difficult to get through – but we finally managed it," he added.
Ancelotti applauds Rivaldo
All the talk before the game had been about the prospect of seeing FIFA World Cup winner Rivaldo team up with fellow playmaker Rui Costa in their first game together. And although Rivaldo threatened to break the deadlock as early as the third minute, the former FC Barcelona star failed to stamp his authority on the game. However, Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti applauded his new signing's overall contribution especially in the later stages of the game. "I am really happy with Rivaldo's performance - he is adapting to the team and he was really important for us, especially when we were leading," said Ancelotti.
Special praise for Inzaghi
The former Parma AC and Juventus FC coach reserved special praise for his ace marksman, Inzaghi, who has scored six out of Milan's seven goals this season. "He did a great job to finalise the work the team had started, he is in great shape, really motivated and that is important for us at the moment," he said.
Muller's plans destroyed
Lens coach Joël Muller, meanwhile, said: "We weren't afraid of Milan. But we knew that they were a strong side and they were playing an attacking lineup. We were well organised, especially in the first half, but to concede two goals inside four minutes just destroyed all our plans."
Inzaghi makes the difference
Muller added that Inzaghi had been the difference between the teams. "Organisation is obviously important in a game, but talent is what wins you games and Inzaghi looked unstoppable today," he said.
