Past meetings

AC Milan and Juventus have a century-long rivalry that has produced 189 encounters.

As AC Milan and Juventus FC prepare to meet for the 190th time, memories of the many classic encounters of their century-long rivalry come flooding back.

Ten men beaten
Their first major meeting came in 1901 when Milan won 3-2 in Turin on their way to the championship final, where they claimed the title for the first time. The biggest game of the period came in 1906 as Milan won a championship decider. Another historic result came in January 1912, when Milan won 8-1 against a Juventus side only able to field ten men.

Record loss
Unsurprisingly, there has often been little to choose between the two in their regular tussles. Milan are behind in all fixtures, victorious 59 times and defeated on 69 occasions in 189 games. However, Juve's record Serie A loss occurred in 1949/50 when they lost 7-1 against Milan in Turin, but still pipped them to the title by five points. The two teams also have major cup final experience against each other, with three meetings at the decisive stage of the Coppa Italia. In the first, in 1942, the two drew 1-1 in Milan, with Juventus winning the replay in Turin 4-1.

Penalty shoot-out
Another 1-1 draw followed in their next final meeting 31 years later in Rome. For the 1973 final, there was no replay, and Milan gained belated revenge with a victory on penalties. However, Juventus pipped Milan to the 1972/73 league title. By the time of the third contest, in 1990, Milan were European champions, but they could not best Juventus again - a goalless first leg was followed by a 1-0 victory for La Vecchia Signora in the return.

Final frontier
The only stage on which the two clubs are yet to face is the European one - something which will change at Old Trafford. Over a hundred years may have passed since their first major meeting, but the rivalry between Milan and Juventus promises to reach a whole new level.
