Rodriguez staying in Monaco

Defender Julien Rodriguez has pledged his future to AS Monaco FC by signing a new four-year contract.

Márquez off
Monaco were keen to hang on to the 25-year-old, especially following the departure of Mexico captain Rafael Márquez to FC Barcelona last week. Rodriguez played 26 times in Ligue 1 last season and also helped the Principality team lift the French League Cup.

Deschamps delighted
"It is a good thing to have re-signed him," said Monaco coach Didier Deschamps, aware that several clubs had been tracking the player. Rodriguez's previous contract had been due to expire this summer.
