Medical tests
The Austrian champions have registered the 31-year-old midfield player to compete in their UEFA Champions League campaign although the move is still subject to the satisfactory completion of medical tests. "The transfer could only be completed late on Wednesday night and the player will undergo the necessary medical test on Saturday," said the club's sporting director Günter Kronsteiner.
Busy summer
Blanchard is Austria Wien's ninth summer signing as they plan for a Champions League third qualifying round tie against Olympique de Marseille. The experienced Frenchman started out with USL Dunkerque and played for FC Metz between 1995 and 1998 before spending a season with Juventus FC in Serie A. He joined Lens on returning to France.
