Manchester United FC have named David Gill as their new chief executive after the resignation of Peter Kenyon, who has joined Premiership rivals Chelsea FC.
'Immediate effect'
Gill, previously the managing director at United, will move into the role relinquished by Kenyon "with immediate effect". The Old Trafford club confirmed the appointment, and Kenyon's departure, to the London stock exchange on Tuesday morning.
'Garden leave'
The 49-year-old Kenyon has accepted the job of chief executive officer of the "Chelsea group of companies". A United statement on Monday read: "The board of Manchester United plc is delighted to announce the appointment of David Gill as its new chief executive with immediate effect, to replace Peter Kenyon who has resigned today. Mr Kenyon will now go on garden leave in accordance with the terms of his contract."
Chelsea confirmation
Meanwhile, a statement on Chelsea's website read: "Chelsea Village confirm it has agreed to employ Peter Kenyon as chief executive officer. Mr Kenyon's employment is set to commence as permitted by contractual arrangements with his current employer."
