Scan reveals fracture
The 24-year-old midfield player suffered the injury in Juve's 1-0 Serie A win against Bologna FC on Sunday, and having foregone the trip to Spain for tonight's first leg against Deportivo, underwent a scan which revealed a fracture of a lumbar vertebra.
Davids departure
Maresca only appeared once in the Champions League group stage but his importance to the Juventus midfield has increased since the departure of Edgar Davids on loan to FC Barcelona in January. The home leg against Deportivo is on 9 March, and if Marcello Lippi's side progress the first leg of the quarter-finals is a fortnight later.
