Larsson faces six months out

FC Barcelona will be missing Henrik Larsson for up to six months because of knee ligament damage.

Keyhole surgery
Larsson hurt his left knee in the 3-0 victory over Real Madrid CF on Saturday night and this morning underwent keyhole surgery at the Asepeyo clinic to remove a loose piece of cartilage. When surgeons looked inside the player's knee, however, they also discovered a tear to the anterior cruciate ligament and he will now almost certainly require further surgery.

Identical injuries
Larsson's injury is identical to those sustained by Gabri García and Thiago Motta earlier this season. The 33-year-old has scored three league goals and one in the UEFA Champions League this term. His absence leaves the Primera División leaders with just one out-and-out striker in Samuel Eto'o and Barça will likely move in the transfer market when the window reopens on 1 January.
