Brugge part company with Sollied

Club Brugge KV have announced that coach Trond Sollied has left the Belgian champions after a five-year reign.

Five-year reign
In recent weeks, the 46-year-old Norwegian, who took over at Brugge after quitting KAA Gent in 2000, has been linked with Greek side Olympiacos CFP. A video message was then shown on Belgian television in which Sollied appeared to announce his farewell to Brugge, although the coach dismissed this as a misunderstanding.

Club statement
However, Brugge opted to take legal advice relating to any potential severance package, and the club today released a statement saying: "The Club Brugge KV board has noticed the statements of Mr Trond Sollied that were broadcast on Belgian television station VRT. The board has concluded that Mr Sollied has decided to leave Club Brugge without doubt.

Legal decision
"According to Belgium labour law that means he has brought an end to the existing contract. Today the board has explicitly confirmed all of this to Mr Sollied, who no longer is part of Club Brugge KV with immediate effect. This message is the only statement that Club Brugge KV wants to make." Sollied's successor will inherit a club in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round.
