Derkach destined for Shakhtar

FC Shakhtar Donetsk won the race to sign FC Borysfen Boryspil's Ukraine Under-21 midfielder Andriy Derkach.

Rapid rise
The 20-year-old becomes the third Borysfen player to switch to Shakhtar this summer, following defender Oleg Karamushka and midfielder Maksym Trusevich to the 2004/05 champions. Derkach made his top-flight debut last term, going on to score twice in 23 matches although Borysfen were ultimately relegated.

Foreign interest
His form attracted interest from leading sides in Germany and Russia but Shakhtar have won the race to secure his services. The club, who have maximum points after three rounds of the Ukrainian season, will enter the UEFA Champions League in the third qualifying round, the draw for which takes place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon tomorrow.
