Article body
Lengthy lay-off
The 37-year-old midfielder has been struggling with his left ankle for some time, and will be out of action for between two to three months. He had already sat out the 4-1 defeat at Real Madrid CF on Wednesday night.
Medical opinion
Rosenborg physiotherapist Wilhelm Stoltz said: "It was Ørjan himself who took the decision to operate. The injury has shown improvement over the past few weeks, but nowhere near enough to play football. An operation was the only alternative."
Key games
Berg will now miss the Spanish side's return trip to Trondheim on Matchday 4 as well as the subsequent fixtures at home against Olympiacos CFP and away against Olympique Lyonnais. Rosenborg have three points from three games in Group F.
