Caçapa wants a knockout finish

Olympique Lyonnais captain Claudio Caçapa wants his side to book a place in the knockout stage in style with a win against Olympiacos CFP tonight.

'A winning mentality'
But rather than targeting the draw that would suffice against Olympiacos in Athens tonight, Caçapa wants Lyon to secure a club-record fourth win. "We may need one more point, but we're not aiming to finish with only ten points," the centre-back told uefa.com. "There's a winning mentality at Lyon these days. Every time we step on to the pitch we do so aiming to win."

'A psychological boost'
Lyon topped their group ahead of Manchester United FC last term before firing ten goals past Werder Bremen in the first knockout round. Already three points clear of group rivals Madrid, they are well placed to claim top spot again. "Hopefully we'll seal qualification in Greece, then we can travel to the Santiago Bernabéu with a relaxed mindset," said Caçapa. "Whatever happens we won't be worried. It's another chance for us to show our talent and if we get a result in Madrid it'd be a great psychological boost."

Kafes setback
While their first two wins of the campaign came in convincing fashion, Gérard Houllier's team were made to sweat against Olympiacos at the Stade Gerland. Having taken an early lead through a Juninho Pernambucano free-kick, Pantelis Kafes became the first player to find a way through Lyon's defence in the Champions League this term when he chipped Grégory Coupet with six minutes remaining.

'A wonderful goal'
Caçapa insists the Greek champions did not take Lyon by surprise and expects a similarly difficult test in the Georgios Karaiskakis stadium. "We were fully aware of Olympiacos' qualities beforehand," he said. "They have good players and they showed in the second half that they can dominate possession. They pinned us in our own half, then scored a wonderful goal through Kafes who had a good game. It'll be even harder in Greece."

Beautifully-flighted pass
Lyon ultimately sealed the points after Sidney Govou latched on to Juninho's beautifully-flighted pass to score with just seconds remaining. Caçapa is not sure Lyon would have produced such a positive reaction in the past. "We're a very experienced team now with players who have been together for many years and have a lot of Champions League matches under the belt," explained the 29-year-old. "It's at moments like that, when they equalised, that experience really matters. We didn't panic because we knew we were capable of scoring another goal."

Juninho tribute
Lyon also knew they could count on the inspiration of their outstanding playmaker Juninho. Caçapa was keen to pay tribute to his compatriot after another dazzling display. "In the big games we know that Juni will deliver," he said. "He turned in yet another man-of-the match performance and we're delighted to have him."

'An enormous plus'
Caçapa does not hesitate in describing Juninho as "one of the best players in the world", adding: "We've played together for a long time and he's a great friend. He's got it all: quality passing, dribbling, but his most important asset is his desire to work for the team. As for his free-kicks, they're extraordinary. His shots are so accurate it's like he is shooting with his hands! For us he's an enormous plus."
