Quiet night would suit Gomes

After a heroic display at AC Milan, PSV Eindhoven goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes is keen for the pressure to be on his opposite number Dida tonight.

Shootout success
However, just as he did in saving two spot-kicks in PSV's quarter-final shoot-out success against Olympique Lyonnais last season, the Brazilian proved again on Matchday 3 that he has the nerve for the job, as AC Milan's all-star striking lineup failed to find a way past him in a goalless draw.

'A great result'
"I'm very pleased with how I played," the 24-year-old former Cruzeiro EC player, who conceded twice at the San Siro in last season's semi-final, told uefa.com. "This was a great result for us, and now we can go back to Eindhoven and take three points from them."

All-star attack
That result in Milan marked a significant achievement for PSV, and Gomes for one was impressed with the way that his defence managed to keep the likes of Andriy Shevchenko, Kaká and Filippo Inzaghi at bay. "The guys never let up - they just kept holding them off," he said.

Prize money
However, the Dutch press were rather less keen to share the credit. AD Sportwereld wrote: "The Eindhoven side should pay all of their prize money from this game straight into the account of goalkeeper Gomes who kept a clean sheet despite a never-ending second-half bombardment."

'Impossible saves'
PSV coach Guus Hiddink was no less impressed with the way that his goalkeeper handled a particularly frenetic 20-minute spell just after the interval. "He made some impossible saves," he said. "Milan created chances but Gomes was just outstanding."

Opposite end
Gomes will hope to have a less busy night in Eindhoven, and as Milan return to the scene of their last UEFA Champions League defeat - barring the penalty shootout loss against Liverpool FC in the 2004/05 final - he hopes the pressure will be on his opposite number, Dida.

Brazil's finest
The Brazilian national team goalkeeper is something of an idol for Gomes. "Dida is the best Brazilian goalkeeper of all time," he said. "He was the first Brazilian keeper to join a big traditional European club and the first Brazilian keeper to be described by the European press as one of the best in the world."

Compliment returned
However, after watching Gomes in action again on Matchday 3, Dida returned the compliment, saying: "Congratulations go to Gomes, he did really well out there and came up with a couple of great saves." Dida may do well to emulate him if Milan come under similar pressure tonight.
