Article body
Two second-half goals from Brazilian playmaker Kaká helped AC Milan to a 3-2 UEFA Champions League Group E win against FC Schalke 04 - a result that ensured the Italian side finished top of the group and consigned their German visitors to the UEFA Cup. Andrea Pirlo had opened the scoring for the Italian side, with Christian Poulsen and Lincoln registering for the visitors either side of Kaká's efforts.
Carlo Ancelotti, Milan coach
To get through to the next stage is a big boost for us. We knew we had to perform at our best and handled the pressure really well, although the pressure was more down to the importance of the game rather than any pressure Schalke put on us. I'm glad with what we have achieved and am happy to leave behind the problems we are having in defence at the moment. Schalke are an excellent team and we have done well to qualify from a very well balanced group.
Ralf Rangnick, Schalke coach
I'm very satisfied with tonight's performance. We played really well in the first half and at the beginning of the second but unfortunately we failed to convert our chances into goals. We could have broken the deadlock but didn't and Milan scored twice after we lost possession. In the end, the match against Fenerbahçe [SK] has cost us, when we fully controlled the game but didn't manage to win.
