Fowler makes Anfield homecoming

Striker Robbie Fowler has made a surprise return to his former club Liverpool FC, penning a deal to keep him at Anfield until the end of the season.

Ex-England striker Robbie Fowler has made a surprise return to his former club Liverpool FC.

Anfield legend
The 30-year-old, who left Anfield to join Leeds AFC in November 2001 after scoring 171 goals for the club, has signed a deal tying himself to the European champions until the end of the season. The former England international will strengthen Liverpool's attack as they look to reclaim their UEFA Champions League crown and manager Rafael Benítez is looking forward to working with the veteran. "He's a different kind of striker to what we have at the club," he said.

'Attacking options'
"He's got a wealth of experience and he gives us more attacking options. We have signed a player with so much passion for this football club and I think he will act as an example to every player here in how much he loves Liverpool." Fowler made his debut for Liverpool as an 18-year-old in 1993 and went on to make 330 appearances before moving to Elland Road. A switch to City followed in January 2003, where he scored 20 times in 80 Premiership appearances.
