Season over
The 28-year-old former Italian international has been diagnosed with a fracture of the left fibula which he sustained during Milan's 3-1 victory at FC Messina Peloro on Sunday. The recovery period is expected to be one month, which rules Ambrosini out of the Rossoneri's concluding three Serie A games as well as any UEFA Champions League final, should Milan overhaul FC Barcelona in Wednesday's semi-final second leg.
Playing catch up
Barça lead 1-0 from the San Siro encounter, while Carlo Ancelotti's team also trail Juventus by three points in Italy's title race. Ambrosini has endured an injury-interrupted season, making just 13 Serie A appearances and four in the UEFA Champions League.
