Zico ready for Fenerbahçe

After four years in charge of Japan, Brazilian great Zico has a new challenge after agreeing to take charge of Turkey's Fenerbahçe SK for the next two seasons.

Fenerbahçe SK have appointed Brazilian great Zico as their new coach on a two-year contract.

World Cup
The 53-year-old had been in charge of Japan for the past four years and took them to the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals. He stood down following their failure to get beyond the group stage in Germany, after losing 3-1 and 4-1 to Australia and Brazil respectively, and drawing 0-0 with Croatia. Zico, who represented his country with distinction at the 1978, 1982 and 1986 World Cups, is expected in Istanbul on Wednesday.

European aim
Fenerbahçe will enter the UEFA Champions League in the second qualifying round later this month after finishing runners-up to Galatasaray SK in Turkey. They will play either Birkirkara FC of Malta or B36 Tórshavn from the Faroe Islands. Zico will replace German coach Christoph Daum who has stood down with the club's consent because of health reasons.
