Werder Bremen have handed a two-year contract to goalkeeper Christian Vander after he impressed during a loan spell with the Bundesliga runners-up.
Expectations met
The 25-year-old, who leaves VfL Bochum 1848, will be competing for a place with Tim Wiese and Andreas Reinke, with the latter's severe facial injury last February meaning Vander stepped up to become the club's No2 custodian. Bremen sporting manager Klaus Allofs said: "Christian has absolutely fulfilled the expectations we had in him." Meanwhile, reports in Portugal suggest Bremen, who will enter the UEFA Champions League group stage, could be about to sign Under-21 striker Hugo Almeida from FC Porto.
