Galatasaray SK striker Ümit Karan has signed a three-year extension to his contract, which was due to expire at the end of the current season.

'Things to do'
The 30-year-old announced that he had renewed his commitment to the club at their Metin Oktay training centre, saying: "I thought about the idea seriously before signing the contract. My love for the club is very great and I decided not to leave. I still have things to do for my club. Everybody here likes me - that also affected my decision."

Prolific season
Ümit has been playing for the Istanbul side since 2001 when he joined them from Gençlerbirliği SK. He has scored 48 goals in 102 league appearances for the club. This season, he has scored five league goals and two more in four UEFA Champions League group stage appearances. Galatasaray have two more UEFA Champions League Group C games to play, starting with a trip to FC Girondins de Bordeaux this week. They have no chance of reaching the knockout phase but could yet earn a place in the UEFA Cup.
