Méndez prolongs PSV stay

PSV Eindhoven's Ecuadorean international midfielder Edison Méndez has made his loan move to the Netherlands permanent by signing a contract till 2010.

'Reassuring'
The 27-year-old Ecuadorean international, who has been on loan from LDU Quito since the summer, has impressed PSV coach Ronald Koeman sufficiently to earn a three-year contract. "I am very happy," said Méndez. "I am eager to repay the club for the faith they have put in me over the last four months. It reassures me, both on and off the pitch."

European progress
The former Sociedad Deportivo Quito and El Nacional player has scored four goals in eleven Eredivisie games as well as starting all five of PSV's UEFA Champions League Group C matches. With PSV already though to the last 16 of the latter competition, Méndez added: "The conditions at Eindhoven are ideal for performing at the highest level in both the Netherlands and Europe. The stadium, the training ground, the people at the club are all great and I am delighted to be staying here."
