Sore foot
Cole has been involved as a substitute for Chelsea since the middle of October, when he returned from a knee injury, but was hurt playing as a substitute in a 1-1 draw at Manchester United FC on 26 November. The 25-year-old has since been unable to train due to soreness in the foot and will now be sidelined until the new year.
Substitute cameos
Cole has made one starting and five substitute appearances in the Premiership this season, while featuring three times in Chelsea's successful UEFA Champions League group-stage campaign. He will sit out the London club's busy Christmas programme, which also includes English League Cup and FA Cup matches. Chelsea lie second in the Premiership, eight points behind Manchester United FC but with a game in hand, following Sunday's 1-1 draw with Arsenal FC.
