Porto pained by Pedro Emanuel

FC Porto could be without Pedro Emanuel until the summer after the defender had more surgery on the achilles injury which has sidelined him since August.

Persistent problems
The 31-year-old has not featured this term after damaging his left achilles in the warm-up for a pre-season friendly against English side Manchester City FC, and an initial operation failed to cure the problem. Today's surgery was required after the muscle became inflamed, although Porto have yet to reveal how much longer he will be out of action. There was better news for the Portuguese champions, however, ahead of their meeting with Chelsea FC in the UEFA Champions League first knockout round, as forward Hélder Postiga should make a swift return from a thigh injury to face UD Leiria in their next Liga game on 26 January.
