Ronaldo unveiled by Rossoneri

AC Milan have completed the signing of Ronaldo from Real Madrid CF in a €7.5m deal until summer 2008, making the striker the club's third midwinter recruit.

Familiar haunt
The 30-year-old Brazilian international striker returns to Milan having spent five seasons with city rivals FC Internazionale Milano between 1997 and 2002. He has agreed a contract until June 2008. Ronaldo, who passed a medical on Friday, becomes the Italian side's third winter recruit after goalkeeper Marco Storari and right-back Massimo Oddo.

'Imposing figure'
Ronaldo started only three league games for Madrid this term, but his new coach Carlo Ancelotti is confident he can rediscover his best form in Italy. "Ronaldo is not fat, he is just sturdy and has an imposing figure," Ancelotti said. "I think his main problem was a lack of motivation but his decision to come here is a very positive sign. He hasn't trained much after being dropped by Madrid but remains an excellent player."

'Great players'
Milan arguably need the forward's expertise having mustered just 26 goals in 21 Serie A matches this season, with Alberto Gilardino having scored seven and Ricardo Oliveira and Filippo Inzaghi two apiece. "Players who help us are always welcome," said Inzaghi. "Great players are always welcome. We hope he will give us a big helping hand." Ronaldo's international team-mate Kaká is also backing him to deliver, telling uefa.com: "I don't need to tell anybody how important he has been to football over the last decade. I believe he still has a lot to offer if he keeps himself motivated."

Glittering career
Twice a FIFA World Cup winner with Brazil and three times FIFA World Player of the Year, Ronaldo began his career with Cruzeiro EC before moving to PSV Eindhoven and then FC Barcelona, for whom he netted the only goal of the 1997 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain FC. He then switched to Inter for a world-record €30.5m and registered in the 1998 UEFA Cup final victory against Parma FC. Despite a return of 49 strikes in 68 Serie A outings, his Inter stay was wrecked by knee injuries that restricted him to 14 league starts between 1999 and 2002.

Champions League ineligibility
The 2002 World Cup in Korea/Japan marked his recovery as Ronaldo scored eight times in Brazil's triumph before going to Madrid for €45m. He was an instant hit with 23 goals in his first Primera División campaign to help Madrid to the title, yet despite notching 82 goals in 127 league matches at the Santiago Bernabéu, he was unable to inspire further trophies. Ronaldo will hope to reverse that trend at Milan, who sit ninth in Serie A, albeit within three points of fourth-placed S.S. Lazio. He will be ineligible for the UEFA Champions League, having played for Madrid in the competition last autumn.
