Marcelo ruled out for Madrid

Real Madrid CF's new signing Marcelo will be out for six weeks after spraining his right ankle but Guti will return in a fortnight from a similar injury.

Real Madrid CF's new signing Marcelo will be out for six weeks after spraining his right ankle just days after his club debut although Guti will return in a fortnight from a similar injury.

Marcelo blow
The 18-year-old Brazilian defender was a 58th-minute substitute last weekend for Míchel Salgado in the 2-0 defeat by RC Deportivo La Coruña. However, Marcelo - who joined Madrid from Fluminense FC last month - was injured in training on Tuesday and will not be back until late February.

Guti news
There is better news about midfielder Guti. He picked up a right-ankle strain early on against Deportivo but tests have revealed that his problem is less serious than Marcelo's and his recovery period will be between ten and 15 days. That means the Spanish international will be back well before Madrid's UEFA Champions League first knockout round first-leg meeting with FC Bayern München at the Santiago Bernabéu on 20 February, a match Marcelo may well miss.
