No cup glory
The 30-year-old German international missed Chelsea's FA Cup final victory over Manchester United FC, as well as two UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifiers in June, following a major operation on the ankle at the beginning of May.
'Complication'
Chelsea said on their website: "The operation is related to a complication in the healing of the wound from previous surgery in May." Ballack scored five goals in 26 Premier League appearances in his first season in England following a move from FC Bayern München. His campaign was curtailed when he injured the ankle against Newcastle United FC on 22 April.
