Milan complete Emerson swoop

European champions AC Milan have added another Brazilian to their number after signing experienced midfielder Emerson from Real Madrid CF for a €5m fee.

Italy return
The 31-year-old former Grêmio FBPA player returns to Italy after quitting Juventus for Real Madrid last summer and helping the Spanish side claim the Primera División title. Emerson had arrived in Europe in 1997 when he joined Bayer 04 Leverkusen before moving to AS Roma in 2000 for €19.3m. He won the Scudetto in his first season with the Giallorossi but left the Italian capital after four years for Juventus in a €28m deal.

Brazilian contingent
The central midfielder landed two Serie A titles in Turin, although the Bianconeri were subsequently stripped of both championships and were relegated to Serie B last summer after a sporting fraud tribunal. Emerson, who is thought to have agreed a two-year contract, becomes the latest Brazilian at Milan who already have Dida, Serginho, Digao, Cafu, Kaká and Ronaldo on their books, while new recruit Pato will be eligible from January. Carlo Ancelotti's side face UEFA Cup winners Sevilla FC in the UEFA Super Cup on 31 August.
