Armin Veh has signed a one-year extension to his contract as coach of UEFA Champions League hopefuls VfB Stuttgart, committing to the club until 2009.

Armin Veh has signed a one-year extension to his contract as coach of UEFA Champions League contenders VfB Stuttgart, committing to the club until 2009.

'The right man'
The 46-year-old's existing deal was due to expire next summer but the club have handed him an extra 12-month deal, along with his assistant Alfons Higl, after the former VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder led Stuttgart to the German title last season. Club chairman Erwin Staudt said: "We agreed a while ago to extend the contract of Armin Veh beyond this season. Armin Veh and his team are doing great work and we are convinced that he is the right man in the right place." Veh added: "VfB allow me to put my ideas into practice. I believe in the potential of our young team and am sure that we are going places." Stuttgart lost their Group E opener 2-1 at Rangers FC last week. They take on FC Barcelona at home on Matchday 2 on 2 October.
