Baumann adds to Bremen's woes

Werder Bremen have confirmed that midfielder Frank Baumann broke his nose during their 2-1 UEFA Champions League defeat at S.S. Lazio on Tuesday night.

Werder Bremen have confirmed that midfielder Frank Baumann broke his nose during their 2-1 UEFA Champions League defeat at S.S. Lazio on Tuesday night.

Accidental clash
The Bremen captain had to leave the pitch after 32 minutes following a collision with Lazio's Cristián Ledesma and was eventually replaced by Danish midfielder Daniel Jensen. "Several players had missed a cross and I went for some kind of a diving header, but when my head was down really low I was hit by an opponent," the 32-year-old said.

'Hurts much more'
Defeat left Bremen bottom of Group C with just three points and Baumann may now be out for the weekend game against Karlsruher SC and longer. "The injury is not nice but at the moment losing the match to Lazio hurts much more," Baumann added. After tearing a ligament in his left knee, Baumann did not return to action until mid-October and has only featured in eight Bundesliga games this season.
