Mirko Vučinić hailed a "trademark" AS Roma performance as they won 4-1 at FC Dynamo Kyiv to reach the UEFA Champions League last 16 – aided by two goals from himself.
Panache
Vučinić's mere presence helped distract the Dynamo defence as Christian Panucci's cross sneaked in on four minutes and after Ludovic Giuly made it two, the Montenegro striker added goals of his own late in each half to continue his fine form deputising for the injured Francesco Totti. However, it was the panache of the team performance that delighted the 24-year-old.
'Fast breaks'
"The early goal made our task a lot easier," Vučinić said. "After we scored we could play on the counterattack and exploit free space in Dynamo's half. Fast breaks are Roma's trademark style and we converted almost 100 per cent of them in the first half which is a result of our preparation. I am happy I scored two goals that helped our team to secure a place in the knockout rounds. They were not the most difficult goals of my career but they still were very important."
'Deserved' win
For midfielder Daniele De Rossi, there was no way back for Roma's opponents once Giuly had struck in the 32nd minute, not long before Vučinić's first. De Rossi said: "I expected a tougher match even though Dynamo have not been strong in this competition. Our second goal was the breaking point, it seemed that Dynamo's morale was destroyed by it. After our third goal, we just had to control the ball and hold on to the result until the final whistle. The outcome is fair, we won deservingly. It is good we are through with one match to spare."
