Celtic FC defender John Kennedy faces three months out after being carried off with a knee injury during the UEFA Champions League home win against FC Shakhtar Donetsk.
Left knee
The centre-back lasted just 42 minutes of Wednesday's 2-1 Group D defeat of Shakhtar before sustaining the injury, which scans have shown to be a damaged cartilage and ligament in his left knee. The initial diagnosis, at least, suggests a 12-week absence. Further examinations will be carried out.
Setback
The injury is a setback for the 24-year-old Kennedy, who missed the entire 2004/05 and 2005/06 campaigns because of a serious injury to the same knee suffered on his Scotland debut in the spring of 2004. The homegrown player has since recovered to make ten Scottish Premier League appearances over the last two seasons and to feature four times in the UEFA Champions League this term.
