Former AJ Auxerre defender Jean-Alain Boumsong has completed his €3m transfer from Juventus to Olympique Lyonnais, returning to France after three-and-a-half years abroad.
Parting shot
The Douala-born French international has signed a three-and-a-half year deal to end a frustrating season in Italy. A regular starter in his first season in Turin, Boumsong has been limited to just two Coppa Italia appearances this term, though ensured he made a lasting impression on Wednesday with the equaliser in a 2-2 first-leg quarter-final draw with FC Internazionale Milano. The 28-year-old, who had spells with Rangers FC and Newcastle United FC before helping Juve to promotion last season, arrives as cover for Anderson after the Brazilian joined fellow centre-backs Patrick Müller and Cris on the long-term absentee list.
Juninho out
Lyon are away to AS Saint-Etienne on Sunday looking to prolong an unbeaten run against their rivals stretching back to 1994. They will have to do so, however, without playmaker Juninho Pernambucano who has not recovered from a toe injury on his left foot in time to play. Saint-Etienne goalkeeper Jérémy Janot will also miss the match because of a shoulder injury the club confirmed today.
