Two newcomers
Liverpool, 3-0 aggregate winners, join Arsenal FC, Manchester United FC and Chelsea FC – respectively first, second and third in the English top flight – in the hat along with 2006 winners FC Barcelona, AS Roma and two newcomers to this stage, FC Schalke 04 and Fenerbahçe SK. Holders AC Milan have failed to make the quarter-finals for the first time in six seasons, while nine-time winners Real Madrid CF are other notable absentees having fallen to a Roma side who may want to avoid Manchester United having lost 7-1 at Old Trafford in the last eight last season. The draw is open and without country protection.

Open draw
The event at UEFA HQ – which will be streamed live on uefa.com – begins from 13.00CET and will be conducted by the UEFA General Secretary, David Taylor, together with the ambassador for the final in Moscow, former Russia goalkeeper Rinat Dasaev. The quarter-final first legs will be played on 1/2 April and the return matches the following week. The four winning teams will know who they will meet in the semi-finals (taking place on 22/23 and 29/30 April) as those pairings will also be decided during Friday's draw ceremony. The final will be held at the Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow, on Wednesday 21 May at 20.45CET (22.45 local time).
