Deivid injury impedes Fenerbahçe

Luis Aragonés has suffered a blow on his first full day as Fenerbahçe SK coach with the news that Brazilian attacker Deivid is out until 2009 with a broken ankle.

Crucial goals
The 28-year-old sustained the injury to his left tibula on the first day of the Turkish side's summer training camp in Austria and is to undergo surgery in Munich on Monday. It was a spectacular volley from Deivid that gave Fenerbahçe a 1-0 victory against FC Internazionale Milano on 2007/08 UEFA Champions League Matchday 1 and his late equaliser at PFC CSKA Moskva in the next match kept up their useful start.

Budapest tie
His two goals at Sevilla FC then took the last-16 tie to a penalty shoot-out in which the Istanbul club prevailed to earn a quarter-final against Chelsea where Deivid scored nine minutes from time to earn a 2-1 first-leg win. Fenerbahçe, who this weekend unveiled UEFA EURO 2008™-winning coach Aragonés as successor to Zico, begin this season's UEFA Champions League in the second qualifying round against MTK Budapest.
