Liverpool bring in goalkeeper Diego

Liverpool have signed goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri from SE Palmeiras on a four-year contract and he is looking forward to challenging Pepe Reina for a starting place.

Third signing
The 25-year-old has signed a contract running until summer 2012 and becomes the third major arrival at Anfield in the close season after full-backs Philipp Degen and Andrea Dossena, as Liverpool prepare for the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round next month. Diego made more than 100 appearances for Palmeiras, helping them to promotion in 2003 and victory in this year's Sao Paulo state championship.

Reina challenge

"I know it won't be easy to get into the team," Diego told Liverpool's official website. "I watched some Liverpool games in both the Premier League and Champions League last year and I know Pepe is a very good goalkeeper. But everyone has to fight for their place and I'm sure we will have a healthy rivalry."
