Unfortunate collision
In his first game since recovering from an ankle injury, the 27-year-old was taken off after 26 minutes of the French champions' 3-0 friendly win against AS Nancy-Lorraine in Villefranche-sur-Saone after a collision with Nancy striker Monsef Zerka. The club have announced he will undergo surgery on Thursday and could be out for "the next two months" meaning he would miss Lyon's first two games in the UEFA Champions League group stage. Fábio Santos has scored once in 16 games for Lyon in the two seasons since joining from Cruzeiro EC. He was loaned to Brazilian side São Paulo FC for a spell earlier this year.
