Fiorentina silence Mutu transfer gossip

ACF Fiorentina have ended speculation over talismanic forward Adrian Mutu's future by handing the Romania captain a new deal, tying him to the Viola until 2012.

Existing deal
The 29-year-old forward, who scored 17 goals in 29 Serie A games last season to help Fiorentina finish fourth and book a UEFA Champions League third qualifying round place, was already contracted until 2011 but has extended that deal by a season amid rumours he was a transfer target for AS Roma. Mutu joined the Viola from Juventus in 2006, having previously played for FC Internazionale Milano, Hellas-Verona FC and Parma FC in Italy, before an ill-starred spell at Chelsea FC. With 29 goals in 64 appearances for Romania, Mutu also scored six times in ten UEFA Cup outings last term as Fiorentina reached the semi-finals. Fiorentina meet SK Slavia Praha in the third qualifying round on 12/13 and 26/27 August.
