Almerares has joined Basel, who on Wednesday defeated IFK Göteborg to reach the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round, on a three-year contract. The 23-year-old has spent his entire career with River Plate, but managed only 13 senior league appearances and four goals. Liberian goalkeeper Crayton, meanwhile, has left the Swiss title-holders for a new challenge with US Major League Soccer club D.C. United. Basel face Portugal's Vitória SC in the third qualifying round on 13 and 27 August.
