The 29-year-old, whose previous deal was due to expire next summer, moved to Lisbon in summer 2003 from GrĂªmio FPA in his homeland and has since featured in 138 Liga matches. The 2002 FIFA World Cup winner has scored three goals in eleven appearances for his country, but is yet to find the net for Sporting. The Portuguese Cup winners meet title-holders FC Porto in Saturday's Super Cup, while both clubs will enter the UEFA Champions League in the group stage next month.
