Thigh injury puts Pizarro out of commission

AS Roma have received more bad news in the wake of their 2-1 home defeat against CFR 1907 Cluj, with Chilean midfielder David Pizarro being ruled out for about a month with a torn muscle in his left thigh.

The 29-year-old was due to be in Luciano Spalletti's starting lineup against CFR but sustained the injury while practicing free-kicks during Monday night's training session. Initial fears about the state of his thigh were confirmed during medical tests today, and he is now destined to miss his side's Group A trip to FC Girondins de Bordeaux on 1 October, though he could be available again for the game at Chelsea FC three weeks later.
