The 31-year-old was taken off after 36 minutes at the OACA Spiro Louis Stadium, where the Greens went down 2-0, and subsequent medical tests have confirmed a strain to his left calf. Karagounis will miss the Group B trip to Anorthosis Famgusta FC on 1 October, at least two Super League fixtures, and Greece's FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Switzerland. Panathinaikos hope to have the midfielder fit for the visit of Werder Bremen on 22 October.
