Crosas touts power of Celtic tradition

Marc Crosas said Celtic FC's "history can make teams fear us" as the Scottish champions look to earn a first UEFA Champions League group stage away victory against Villarreal CF in his native Spain on Tuesday.

Sole point
Although the Scottish champions have a formidable home record in Europe's top club tournament, Celtic have failed to record an away win in 15 group stage games, their only point coming against FC Barcelona six years ago when John Hartson scored in a 1-1 draw at Camp Nou. However, Crosas, who moved to Glasgow from Barça during the summer, is convinced his new team-mates are good enough to get their first away victory against Manuel Pellegrini's side.

'We can beat them'
"I think we can go over there and win," said Crosas, who made his second start in Celtic's 3-2 win against Aberdeen FC on Saturday. "The score is 0-0 right now and I believe we can beat them. We are a good team and have as good a chance as Villarreal. There are real possibilities to go there and get three points."

Powerful reputation
Following a goalless draw against Aalborg BK in their opening fixture, Celtic need to take something from their trip to El Madrigal to kick-start their Group E campaign. Villarreal beat Celtic 3-1 on aggregate four years ago in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup and according to Crosas that experience together with their history in Europe will give Gordon Strachan's side an edge.

Respect
"Villarreal have very good players, but I also know we are a very good team and if we can play as we can, I think we will give them a good game," insisted Crosas. "I haven't seen a lot of Villarreal this season, however, we have good points in our team that we can use to hurt them. Villarreal know Celtic are a club with a lot of history and they have a lot of respect for us. Our history can make teams fear us."
